Students of all nationalities who are enrolled at music universities in German-speaking countries and are no more than 26 years old can apply for a place in the orchestra. There is no entitlement to specific positions.

If you win the audition, you are obliged to take part in one of the upcoming work phases of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie (NEW YEAR 2025 from 02/01 - 13/01/2025) or (SPRING YEAR 2025 from 21/03 - 05/04/2025).

The jury consists of members of the orchestra - advised by musicians from renowned German symphony orchestras and teachers from German-speaking music academies.

In the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the best students from German-speaking music academies come together in an orchestra with the highest artistic standards, dare to try something new and fulfil their high musical standards with dedicated passion.
In addition to the large symphonic repertoire, the orchestra focuses on contemporary music and historical performance practice.
The orchestra members come together several times a year for concentrated rehearsal phases followed by international concert tours. With the biennial FREISPIEL format, the orchestra has also been emphasising interdisciplinary, experimental event formats since 2008.

The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is organised on a grassroots democratic basis: The members and their commitment have been the heart and soul of the orchestra for almost 50 years now: every member is called upon to play an active role in programme planning, board work and orchestra management.
The musicians regularly pass on their passion for making music in music education projects that they plan themselves.
In this way, the orchestra's educational programme goes far beyond orchestral playing. The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie is an important link between studies and professional life.
