The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie is the joint radio symphony orchestra of Saarländischer Rundfunk and Südwestrundfunk. Pietari Inkinen has been chief conductor since 2017. The orchestra currently employs 98 musicians. The approximately 70 concerts per year take place in Saarbrücken, Kaiserslautern and in the two broadcasting areas of SR and SWR as well as on national and international concert stages. All concerts are recorded by the radio station and around 5 CD recordings are made each year. In addition, concerts are broadcast both linearly and online, on the DRP's own YouTube channel and are available in the SR and ARD media libraries. In addition to classical and romantic works, the repertoire focuses on modern classics and the symphonic border area to film and jazz as well as new and rediscovered musical creations by lesser-known composers. As a commissioner, interpreter and promoter of contemporary music - especially by young composers - the orchestra fulfils an important cultural mission. In addition, the orchestra is dedicated to music education with educational projects and new formats. The ensemble concerts form a series of their own. The position is assigned to the SR. Travelling expenses and other performance costs are not reimbursed. The Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern is not subject to the collective labour agreement for musicians from cultural orchestras. Therefore, there is no collective agreement entitlement to travel expenses.
