The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the most versatile orchestras in the Netherlands.
It holds a tradition in performing the great symphonic works by Mahler, Bruckner and Strauss. The Orchestra also excels in early twentieth century and contemporary music.
The orchestra has its concert series in the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and is the primary partner of the Dutch National Opera and specializes in late romantic German repertoire by composers such as Wagner, Strauss and Korngold.
With the appointment of Lorenzo Viotti in 2021 as chief conductor of the orchestra and the Dutch Opera, the orchestra has received top reviews for the performance of new Puccini, Wagner and Strauss productions and enjoyed sold out concert in Amsterdam attended by younger audiences than ever before.
Last season the orchestra performed a successful concert tour with pianist Maria Joao Pires in Vienna, Paris, Dresden, Munich and Hamburg.
This season the orchestra will tour Germany and Belgium with Lisa Bathiasjvhili and Maximilian Hornung.
The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra is also known for its outreach and educational programs making classical music accessible to everyone.
The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra is joined to the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra in one organization with a beautiful office and rehearsal space in the eastern part of Amsterdam.

Profile
• You are versatile and ensure excellent performances on (inter)national concert stages and at the opera whilst mastering a broad repertory. That requires a professional and flexible work ethic. The unique combination of playing opera, symphonic work and chamber music, make for a versatile work environment. Besides playing in the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, your annual workload will involve playing and participating in educational/social projects;
• You radiate enthusiasm on every stage;
• You have a talent for harmonious teamwork and possess open communication skills;
• If you have less than 3 years of work experience in a professional orchestra, we recommend to upload 1 to 3 recent videos via MUVAC. This increases the chance that we will invite you;

Employment conditions
• You start with a one year fixed-term employment contract;
• Contract size is 80%;
• Salary in accordance with the collective labor agreement for Dutch Orchestras, scale 1 (column 110%). The step depends on your years of experience in a professional orchestra;
• Mandatory participation in the ABP pension fund;
• Different fees according to collective labor agreement for Dutch Orchestras, which you can find on www.vvno.nl , the website of the association of Dutch Orchestras;
• Date of commencement of employment for the mentioned position will be January 2025;
• Unique Opportunity to play in opera’s, symphonic music, chamber music and educational/social projects.
• A staff association (voluntary participation) that organizes many fun activities such as boat tours in Amsterdam, visiting the local zoo, different workshops and lunch/dinner party’s;
Please note that the auditions are only open to EU citizens and citizens from Iceland, Switzerland, Norway and Liechtenstein, or other musicians already holding a non-temporary residence permit for the Netherlands with full work authorization.
