…I was studying psychology, and a several months long confrontation with Pawlow’s dog had slowly made my drooling stop. The motto, “all that is unmeasurable must be made measurable” was the signal for me to stop dealing with the human soul on a scientific basis. Or, as Bob Dylan would have said: “[it put] a corkscrew to my heart”.
I decided to fill wooden bodies with life and soul instead.
Violin-making is an attractive profession for me because you can combine intuition with craftmanship. Although technology is getting more and more important in this profession, violin-making still has a very mystic connotation. Of course, the instrument itself shows “measurable” values, but these values say nothing about the soul of the instrument or its affinity to its musician.
Every instrument that leaves my workshop is definitely one of a kind.

Studiavo psicologia, ma diversi mesi di confronto con
Il “ cane di Pavlov “ mi fecero esaurire la salivazione.
Il motto “ tutto il non misurabile deve diventare misurabile “ pose fine al mio
studio scientifico dell’animo umano.Decisi di animare strumenti musicali di legno.
La professione “Liutaio” mi attrae perché unisce capacità manuale ed intuizione.
L’anima del suono di uno strumento ad arco ha un origine molto complessa.
È vero che la tecnologia invade sempre di più questa professione, ma è anche
vero che l’aura mistica che la circonda rimane e non sparirà mai.Le misure di valori oggettivi aiutano sì il nostro costruire, ma non potranno
mai spiegare l’anima dello strumento che lo lega al suo fattore e al musicista,
che alla fine lo “possiede”.Ogni strumento che esce dal mio laboratorio sicuramente è un pezzo unico !

…ich studierte Psychologie und eine monatelange Konfrontation mit dem Pawlow‘schen Hund ließ meinen Speichelfluss langsam versiegen. Der Leitsatz: „Alles was nicht messbar ist, muss messbar gemacht werden“ war dann für mich – Bob Dylan würde sagen „like a corkskrew to my heart“ – das Ende, mich mit der menschlichen Seele wissenschaftlich auseinanderzusetzen.
Ich beschloss hölzerne Klangkörper zu beseelen.
Attraktiv am Beruf „Geigenbauer“ ist für mich, handwerkliches Geschick mit Intuition zu verknüpfen. Das Produkt hat eine Funktion, die auf sehr komplexe Art und Weise zustande kommt. Obwohl auch in diesem Beruf die Technologie immer mehr an Gewicht gewinnt, ist Geigenbau nach wie vor zu Recht mit Mystik umgeben. Beim Instrument Geige gibt es sicher einige „messbare“ Werte, die eine Objektivierung darstellen. Diese Werte erklären aber nicht die Seele des Instruments und die damit verbundene Seelenverwandtschaft, die den Musiker an sein Instrument bindet.
Jedes Instrument, das meine Werkstätte verlässt, ist mit Sicherheit ein Einzelstück!
