Christopher White

My fascination with string instruments began as a teenager when I was playing the double bass, and I later studied at Carnegie-Mellon University before deciding I wanted to become a violin maker. Thus began my obsession with the great makers of the past. It has been my life’s work to emulate the best examples of the Italian masters.
I am a graduate of The North Bennet St. School in Boston, Massachusetts. My violin making teachers were Ray Melanson, Arthur Toman and Marilyn Wallin. I attended The Oberlin College violin restoration workshops under Vahakn Nigogosian, and went on to train in the shops of Samuel Zygmuntowicz and William Monical before opening my own studio in Boston in 1991.

I have been a member of The American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers since 1994, and have served as Secretary of The Board of Governors. Since 2001, I have been a regular substitute teacher at The North Bennet St. School and currently serve on the advisory board of the violin making program.
