Born in San Francisco in 1951.
Began studies of art and music at an early age.
1974 - 1977 pupil of Paul Hart and Peter Prier at the Violin Making School of America.
May 1977 - one of the first graduates of that program.
Violin repair and restoration in the San Francisco workshop of Frank Passa, former pupil of Simone Fernando Sacconi.
1978 and 1980 - Recipient of three gold medals at VSA international competitions.
1983 - Designated hors concours by VSA and thereafter excluded from its competitions.
1983 - Prize winner at the first AFVBM competition at Lincoln Center.
1985 - Recipient of both the Gold Medal for violin making and the special Simone Fernando Sacconi medal for "The instrument most representative of the classical Cremonese school" at the Cremona, Italy Antonio Stradivari international competition.
1986 - Winner of First prize/gold medal at the only AFVBM competition for cello making.
1990 - Prize winner at the Paris International Competition.
Since 2000 Judge at international competitions in Cremona, Italy; Cleveland, USA; Beijing, China and Mittenwald, Germany. Since 1983 - Member of the AFVBM. Since 1990 member of the EILA.
Recipient of grants from the Smithsonian Institution and from the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco to prepare detailed illustrations of the 1683 "ex-Ole Bull" Stradivari violin and the 1742 "ex-Ferdinand David/Jascha Heifetz" Guarneri del Gesu violin.
Contributor of articles to Strings Magazine, The Strad, American Lutherie, and other publications.
Now lives and works in Eugene, Oregon devoting his time primarily to new-making, but also repair, restoration and appraisals of historic instruments.
In addition to violin work, he also has a strong interest in Community, Architecture and Historic Preservation.
Owner and restorer of an 1870 Carpenter's Gothic home listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
