Kevin Kelly

I’ve been playing the violin for about 40 years, starting as a child playing traditional Irish music in our family band. My father and mother, Irish and Italian respectively, both played the accordion - my Dad the button accordion and my mother the piano accordion. We played local dances for the Irish-American community, playing the same music that my father, who was born on a farm in Ireland in 1924, played with his family growing up.

I did take classical violin and theory lessons, and played in quartets and orchestras at the same time.

After high school I spent a few years as a carpenter during the day, and playing in folk and R&B bands (on violin and guitar) at night, before enrolling in 1989 at the North Bennet Street School in Boston to try to start a career as a violin maker - so far so good...
