Marco Cargnelutti

6 Oct 1983, Gemona del Friuli (UD), Italy

Born in 1983 in a small town of the eastern italian Alps, I began my journey into violin making at the age of 25, after visiting a luthier’s workshop in my area.
During the school years in Cremona I met a lot of people who share my passion for violin making, and I realized that it is exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life!
I graduated from the Stradivari School of Violin Making in 2012, knowing only the basis of this art, and so I started looking for someone who resembled my idea of violin making, to learn from him or her, and to begin making instruments that actually represented what I had in mind.
I had many interesting discussions with Masters Bellini, Scolari, Salvadori, Sora, and I learned a lot from them.
Parallel to this is my research on acoustics, which is based on many articles and papers that anyone can find on the web.
My main references in this field are Carleen Hutchins, Nigel Harris, Edward Campbell, Martin Schleske, Erik Jansson and Joseph Curtin.
In 2015 I opened my workshop in my hometown, and in 2019 I moved to Udine, where I live and work.
Being in constant touch with the musicians is crucial for me, and their feedback is fundamental for constantly grow as a violin maker.
I took part in various exhibitions, especially in Cremona and Tokyo.
