Matteo Mazzotti

24 Apr 1979, Pavia, Italy

Matteo Mazzotti was born in Pavia on 24th April 1979. As a child, he showed a precious interest in music and he attendet regularly the workshop in Piacenza of his grandfather, Mazzocchi Oreste, a well-known cabinet-maker, where he had the opportunity to learn “how to treat the wood”.

He attendet the Istituto Liutario “A. Stradivari” in Cremona, where his teachers were master Massimo Negroni and mistress Wanna Zambelli. Bisides the violin class, he also took private lessons by professor Umberto Panichi of Piacenza. In 2000, he got the degree as “Maestro Liutaio” with full marks. Since then he has been working at Master Massimo Negroni’s workshop, thus getting the opportunity to go into and improve his knowledge of the Cremona classic stylistics as well as the hundred-year -old secrets of violin polishing of this famous school. Once completed his education, he opened his own workshop in Piacenza where he lives; he is the only luthier and the only holder of I.P.I.A.L.L diploma in this area.

Matteo Mazzotti manufactures his instruments according to the traditional technique of the well-know Luthier’s Art of Cremona (mod.Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati…) and uses the internal mould allowing him to develop his creativity and his own personal style. A careful choice of seasoned and top-quality materials (fir from Val di Fiemme, maple from the Balkans) together with the evaluation of each single instrument in terms of sound performance, and with the masterly polishing (using oil or mixed paints) developed and prepared by himself personally, all this makes each instrument of his a “unique” one, characterized by careful manufacture, very good sound and valuable beauty.
Matteo Mazzotti’s instruments have been displayed at the most important international exhibitions of string instruments such as: Mondomusica (Cremona), Musikmesse (Frankfurt), International Music Fair (Tokio).
