I graduated from the Chicago School of Violin Making (CSVM), in Chicago , Illinois. Founder and mentor of CSVM, Maestro Tshu Ho Lee, guided me through my education and career. I have over 20 years of experience making, repairing and restoring violins.
In this age of information, the world of violin making has rapidly become smaller and closer. There are more organized schools, associations, seminars, and publications. It is easy to gather a wealth of information very quickly. My only word of caution is the art of violin making still requires individual artistic sense and style developed through earnest training and experience. I believe that the maturity in a luthier (maker) only comes from industrious production over time with thoughtful evolution as a maker along the way. Violinist Sylvia Kim
My experience with violins expands beyond working on them. I am also a proud parent of an accomplished violinist, Sylvia Kim, in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. I enjoy speaking with parents of musical children.
I look forward to meeting you in the near future and welcome any comments or questions you may have.
