8 Jun 1976, Cremona, Italy
I was born in Cremona in 1976.
Cremona was the birthplace of violin making in the 16th century.
It is a city full of traditions and ancient craft workshops, where methods and construction techniques have been handed down from generation to generation.
The great makers – Antonio Stradivari and Andrea Amati – were born in Cremona and this is where they lived and practiced their profession.
As a youth, I was fascinated with the world of lutherie and so I attended the “Antonio Stradivari” International School of Violin Making, an institution celebrated throughout the world.
Here I learned the rudiments of the craft and graduated in 1994 under the tutelage of Master Giorgio Scolari.
For the next three years, I refined my violin making skills, following the classical Cremonese method in the workshop of Master Marco Nolli.
After that period, I participated in violin making competitions in Baveno, Bagnacavallo and Moscow, where I received recognition and awards.
I believe such acknowledgements are fundamental in this profession as a means of promoting my skills and talent as a violin maker, both in Italy and abroad. My profession today 2022 marks my twenty-fifth year as a violin maker.
I make violins, violas, cellos and double basses.
I also do instrument repair, restoration and appraisals.
My passion for classical music and my keen interest in bowed string instruments have led me to explore ways of improving the acoustics and workmanship of my production.
I am proud to say that the art of violin making in Cremona was included in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage on 5 December 2012.
Thus, Unesco recognised the value of Cremonese violin making both in terms of its tradition and know-how.
I am a part of this artisanal tradition that makes musical instruments recognised and appreciated throughout the world.
Over the years, my field of specialization has developed to include antiquing and making copies of antique instruments, comprising violins, violas and cellos.
Although these works are inspired by the great Cremonese makers, they are the fruits of my labour and therefore reflect my unique style and personality.
